Join the peaceful walking protest to demand protection without devastation for the American River Parkway!

What are we protesting?
The Army Corps has not sufficiently analyzed or incorporated less destructive alternatives, such as nature-based solutions, into their designs.
Flood risk was exaggerated: this stretch of the river is relatively straight and has slower velocities than downstream sites. Reinforced levees have seepage walls and are built to withstand water against them 24hrs/day, 365 days/year.
Nearly 700 trees and miles of irreplaceable wildlife habitat are at risk.
Existing plant and tree root systems offer outstanding, natural bank-stabilizing protection; and the above-ground vegetation slows the velocity during high-flow events. This project could make nearby residents less safe.
Many trails, beaches, and access to the river’s edge will be lost.
The Parkway is a state and federally designated Wild & Scenic River that receives 8 million visits/year and generates $365 million annually for the local economy. It is the “most heavily used recreation river in California”.
